Abstract:

This paper investigates the mixing of the graphene (GR) particles in the polyester (PE) resin by using two different dispersion techniques which are mechanical stirring and sonication method. This paper shows that the mixing method has a significant effect on the corrosive behavior of the coatings. Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR) characterization technique is done to analyze the functional group present and evaluate the graphene/polymer matrix interaction. The FT-IR analysis has successfully done and shows that graphene has grafted onto the polyester resin. The corrosive behavior testing is evaluated by using Tafel testing and immersion test which determines the corrosive properties of the coatings based on the mixing method with three different reaction times starting from 30 minutes, 60 minutes, and lastly 90 minutes. The optimum formulation is found at 60 minutes time reaction by using sonication method. This is due to dynamic features of sonicator that have good quality for dispersion of the graphene into the polymer matrix.

Anti-corrosive Properties of CeO2 Conversion Coatings on Aluminum Alloy 2024 Prepared by Dip Immersion Method

As an alternative to chromate conversion coatings, rare-earth coatings especially cerium, because of the low toxicity, have attracted considerable attention. Using dip immersion method, cerium-based conversion coating was deposited on aluminum 2024. Corrosion resistance was studied in 3.5 wt.% NaCl solution using potentiodynamic polarization, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, and surface ...

Atomistic Studies of Mechanical Properties of Graphene

Recent progress of simulations/modeling at the atomic level has led to a better understanding of the mechanical behaviors of graphene, which include the linear elastic modulus E, the nonlinear elastic modulus D, the Poisson’s ratio ν, the intrinsic strength σint and the corresponding strain εint as well as the ultimate strain εmax (the fracture strain beyond which the graphene lattice will be u...

Mechanical Aspects of Anti - Corrosive Coatings Performance Tests

Protective coating corrosion failure is a complicated process that involves various phenomena which are hard to test for separately. An adequately protected pipe can be in service for a relatively long time without exhibiting any signs of corrosion failure, and then all of a sudden it corrodes over a short period of time. Failure will definitely happen if the interface between the pipe surface ...

Enhanced Anti-corrosive Properties of Electrosynthesized Polyaniline/zeolite Nanocomposite Coatings on Steel

The preparation of polyaniline/zeolite nanocomposite coating on 304 stainless steel (304 SS) surface has studied via the galvanostatic method. The electro-generated coating was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), UV-visible absorption spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The anticorrosion property of polyaniline/zeo...
